The New Mayor Vows a 'New Era' for The Big Apple in Inaugural Address

The projected $10 billion price tag of these initiatives may pose a hurdle to secure. Mamdani has pledged to tax more heavily the city's top earners and big business. However, as a municipality under the authority of the state government, he will require the backing of Governor Kathy Hochul.
Facing External Challenges

As his term starts, Mamdani and his wife will move from their Queens apartment to the stately Gracie Mansion. The previous occupant offered a unusual piece of advice about a supposed resident spirit in the home, which allegedly only troubles those who do not act to “do right by the city.”
Mamdani concluded his remarks with a simple statement: “The work has only just begun.”
